Kamala Harris
Kamala Devi Harris, born on the 20th of October 1964 is an American politician as well as a lawyer. She is currently the 49th vice president of the United States. She is both the first female vice-president and the highest-ranking female official of the United States. She is a senator and former senator from California. Harris was born in Oakland, California, Harris graduated from Howard University and the University of California, Hastings College of the Law. Her first job was in the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. Harris was later recruited to join the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. In 2003, she became the San Francisco district attorney. Harris was elected Attorney General of California in 2010, and reelected in 2014. Harris was the junior member of the United States Senate from California from 2017 to 2021. Harris beat Loretta Santiago in the 2016 Senate election making her the 2nd African American woman to serve in Congress , and the only South Asian American American to be elected to the United States Senate. As senator, she fought for reforms to healthcare, federal de-scheduling of cannabis, a path towards citizenship for immigrants without a legal status and the DREAM Act, a ban on assault weapons, and progressive tax reform. In the news, attention was paid to her outspoken questioning of Trump administration officials at Senate hearings. This included Trump's second Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh who was accused of sexual misconduct.
